The Implementation of Model Essays in Teaching IELTS Writing Skills for Advanced-Program Learners at Banking Academy

Writing is considered as the complicated skill to teach and learn. To produce an essay successfully in the target language is undoubtedly a demanding task for almost all learners. Writing an IELTS essay is not the exception in this regard. Language learners are required to perform skills such as structuring the essay, selecting the right words, transforming ideas into meaningful and academic expressions. Teachers are faced with numerous problems in helping students to be confident in different types of essay requirements. This study aims at examining the effectiveness of incorporating model essays into IELTS writing classes. The participants were two teachers and six second-year students who were following IELTS-based courses in Advanced Program in Banking Academy. IELTS essay classes were observed to discover how teachers employed model essays and the participants were then interviewed to voice their opinions about the efficacy of those model essays. The findings indicated that model essays exert a favorable influence on learners’ perspective and they can grasp the organization of an essay, the use of linking devices and academic expressions with great ease. For teachers, the implementation of model essays relieve them from the pressure of bringing theory to life.
